JCP calls public attention to its strategy for 50-60% CO2 cut by 2030

The Japanese Communist Party together with young eco-activists held a street campaign near Shibuya Station in Tokyo on September 23 as part of the “Global Climate Strike”, a worldwide movement appealing for the need to take immediate action to tackle the climate crisis.
JCP member of the House of Representatives Kasai Akira, who heads the party’s taskforce on nuclear power generation, climate change, and energy policy issues, took part in this event jointly with JCP member of the House of Councilors Kira Yoshiko and JCP member of the Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly Satoyoshi Yumi.
Kasai stressed, “Political parties should accept the latest scientific knowledge squarely and take urgent action to reduce CO2 emissions.” He said that in this regard, the JCP recently published the “JCP 2030 strategy” which proposes a target of cutting CO2 emissions by up to 60% by 2030 from the 2010 level.
Kasai said that if energy saving measures and renewable power generation are promoted as proposed under the JCP strategy, they will contribute to the creation of new jobs and a betterment of living standards. “This means that the realization of a carbon-neutral society will pave the way for sustainable development,” he added.
In conclusion, emphasizing that the JCP is striving to put a stop to the climate crisis, Kasai called on passersby to support the party in the forthcoming Lower House general election.
