JCP holds memorial service for 199 activists

The Japanese Communist Party on December 11 held a memorial service at a cemetery in Tokyo’s Hachioji City for the JCP’s 199 activists and assemblymembers who died over the past year.
With the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic situation, this year’s service took place with the limited number of JCP Central Committee members participating. The party will send copies of the ceremony recorded on DVD to the bereaved families.
After a moment of silence, JCP Vice Chair Tamura Tomoko delivered a memorial address. Stating, “It was really regrettable that the party had to give up on inviting the bereaved families to the ceremony due to the pandemic situation,” Tamura extended her condolences to the bereaved families over the death of their loved ones and thanked them for their support for their loved ones while they were alive.
Recalling the October general election, Tamura said that during the election campaign period, the ruling Liberal Democratic and Komei parties and its supplementary force of “Nippon Ishin no Kai” party conducted a propaganda aimed at weakening the solidarity of opposition parties, especially the JCP, because they were alarmed by a possibility that as a result of the election, a type of government which the JCP envisions may be formed.
Tamura quoted JCP Chair Shii as saying at the 4th CC Plenum that the JCP since its founding 100 years ago has always cleared its path forward by beating back anti-JCP attacks by the ruling forces and their minions.
Tamura expressed her determination to work hard to truly celebrate the 100th anniversary of the party’s founding by establishing a foothold for a change of government with a JCP major advance in next summer’s Upper House election.
