JCP Kokuta: Japan should provide support to Moldova for accepting Ukrainian refugees
|
Japanese Communist Party member of the House of Representatives Kokuta Keiji on April 13 at a House Foreign Affairs Committee meeting demanded that Japan provide support to Moldova for accepting many refugees from Ukraine.
Foreign Minister Hayashi Yoshimasa replied that Japan will give assistance to Moldova in response to the nation’s needs.
Kokuta pointed out that since the start of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Moldova has been accepting refugees from Ukraine, who now account approximately for 16% of Moldova’s population of about 2.64 million, and has implemented measures to support these refugees which include the provision of housing, health services, and the necessary infrastructure. He said, “I’d like to pay my heartfelt respect to Moldova for its humanitarian assistance.”
Later on the day, Kokuta and other members of the Lower House Foreign Affairs Committee attended a meeting with ambassadors to Japan from Romania, Moldova, and Poland. In the meeting, Kokuta exchanged views on the situation in Ukraine and other issues with Moldovan Ambassador Dumitru Socolan.
