Tamura in Gwangbokjeol ceremony calls on Tokyo Gov. to send eulogy to 1923 Korean massacre memorial service |
Mindan Central Headquarters president Yuh Keun-ie referred to the recent bilateral relations and said that as this year marks 25 years since the Republic of Korea-Japan partnership declaration, it is necessary to embody more the spirit of the declaration in order to improve ties between the two countries.

Tamura, along with representatives from the Liberal Democratic Party, Komei Party, Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan, and the “Ishin” party, delivered a congratulatory speech.
Tamura in her speech noted that 100 years ago in 1923, in the chaos following the Great Kanto Earthquake in September, many Koreans were unjustly slaughtered by the Imperial Japanese military, police officers, and vigilantes. She stressed that this tragedy must not be forgotten. She said that as a foundation for developing friendship and a good relationship between the peoples of the two countries, it is vital for Japan to sincerely face up to its past history of oppression and reflect on its past war of aggression and colonial rule over the Korean Penisula.
Tamura said that the Japanese government should conduct a fact-finding investigation into the 1923 massacre of Koreans and offer an official apology. She went on to say that Tokyo Governor Koike should change her attitude and send a eulogy to an annual memorial ceremony for the Korean victims.
Tamura expressed her determination to work together with other parties to push the Japanese government to provide permanent foreign residents with local suffrage.
