JCP Chair Tamura comments on incumbent’s declaration of her candidacy for Tokyo governor
|
Tokyo Governor Koike Yuriko on June 12 announced that she will run for her third four-year term in the upcoming Tokyo gubernatorial election (scheduled to be held on July 7).
Asked for a comment at a press conference in the Diet building on the day, Japanese Communist Party Chair Tamura Tomoko said that the JCP will work hard to put an end to the current Tokyo administration led by Koike Yuriko whose polices are just an identical copy of anti-people Liberal Democratic Party policies.
Tamura noted that Constitutional Democratic Party lawmaker Renho already declared her candidacy for the gubernatorial race as an independent and that she will be jointly backed by opposition parties and concerned citizens. The JCP chair said that a change in the Tokyo government with Renho’s victory will have a major influence on the national government. She expressed her determination to make all-out efforts to achieve this.
The JCP Tokyo Metropolitan Assemblymembers’ group issued a statement criticizing Governor Koike for promoting policies putting the business circles’ demands first as shown in large-scale development projects, such as the controversial redevelopment of the Meiji Jingu Gaien (outer garden of the Meiji Shrine). The JCP Tokyo Assemblypersons’ group said that they will make every effort so that Renho will win the Tokyo governor’s race.
The LDP, the Komei Party, and Tokyo’s local political party “Tomin First no Kai” expressed their intention to support the incumbent governor.
