US soldier in Okinawa charged with sex crime

The Naha District Public Prosecutors Office in Okinawa on September 20 indicted a U.S. Marine Corps lance corporal on charges of non-consensual sex resulting in injury.

According to the charge sheet, the 20-year-old lance corporal, Michael Hofmaster, on June 21 in northern Okinawa sexually assaulted and injured a woman.

The marine is currently detained by Japanese authorities.
