DYLJ 48th National Congress resolves to achieve further membership growth toward realizing social change

The Democratic Youth League of Japan (DYLJ) held its 48th National Congress in Atami City in Shizuoka Prefecture on November 22-24, and adopted a resolution to create a huge movement through efforts to attract young people trying to find an alternative to the Liberal Democratic Party.

In the Congress, it was reported that as of November 24, the DYLJ brought in 3,251 new members, exceeding the 3,000-goal set at the previous Congress. The youth group set its sight on bringing in an additional 4,000 members to realize a 10,000-member organization.

On the second day, Japanese Communist Party Executive Committee Chair Tamura Tomoko delivered a speech in solidarity. She praised DYLJ’s continuing growth in membership by appealing to young people with a vision for putting an end to the current focus in politics which gives first priority to business interests and is subservient to the U.S.

Tamura noted that the DYLJ-hosted online seminar titled, “Q&A on Communism and Freedom” helped enrich the JCP theory of a future society. She encouraged DYLJ members to broaden the DYLJ’s appeal of studying scientific socialism among young people.

In discussions, delegates from across the country talked about their experiences of achieving an increase in membership. In addition, they reported on their grassroots activity to oppose the planned huge military buildup and Japan’s possession of an enemy base attack capability as well as on their efforts that meet young people’s demands, such as the lowering of college tuition fees.

The Congress reelected Nishikawa Ryuhei as DYLJ chair.
