Japanese Communist Party Central Committee Chair Shii Kazuo, participating in the 12th General Assembly of the International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP) in Phnom Penh, engaged in vigorous discussions with representatives of political parties from various countries.

With representatives of Mexico, Shii discussed the progress which had led up to the formulation of a nuclear-free zone treaty in Latin America and the Caribbean as well as the progress in implementing the UN Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW) in Latin America and the Caribbean.

With representatives of the Mongolian People’s Party, Shii listened to their accounts of efforts to have their government ratify the TPNW, and discussed ways to further promote the treaty.

Shii spoke with representatives of three parties from Indonesia: the Golkar Party, the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle, and the Welfare and Justice Party. Each of the representatives said they took note that Shii in his speech given in the assembly expressed his opposition to the genocide in Gaza.
