Court recognizes dismissal of union members as invalid

The Chiba District Court Kisarazu Branch on March 30 decided to invalidate the dismissal of 17 union workers by Solar Silicon Technology Co.
The All-Japan Metal and Information Machinery Workers’ Union (JMIU) Solar Silicon branch on April 4 held a news conference to make this decision public.
Solar Silicon Technology Co. in October 2010 fired all 17 JMIU members. They applied for a provisional disposition with the court, calling for the suspension of an unfair dismissal order and the payment of wages.
The court ordered the company to guarantee 75% of full wages to 12 out of the 17 laid-off workers seeking restoration of their positions until the lawsuit is settled.
Union chair Suwa Mitsuru said, “The court acknowledged the union’s demand as just. Through further legal actions, we will call on the company to establish sound labor-management relations.”
