Bill to revise the Worker Dispatch Law should be thoroughly discussed: Zenroren

May 25, 2010
The National Confederation of Trade Unions (Zenroern) on May 24 published a statement by its Secretary General Odagawa Yoshikazu calling for a drastic amendment to the government bill to revise the Worker Dispatch Law.

Odagawa also calls on the government to thoroughly discuss the bill by taking temporary workers’ urgent demands into consideration.

Regarding the fact that the Democratic Party of Japan-led government plans to enact the government bill during the current Diet session, Odagawa said, “The government bill doesn’t contribute to eradicating arbitral dismissals of temporary workers and the illegal use of temporary workers as ‘disguised independent contractors’.”

Odagawa criticized the government for intending to end Diet deliberations in an incredibly short time without carrying out an intensive discussion attended by the prime minister, holding a public hearing, or summoning dismissed temporary workers as unsworn witnesses to the Diet. “The government should devote more time to discussing such an important bill,” he said.

Odagawa pointed out that by using their question time, ruling block lawmakers showed their intentions to “entrench and spread the use of temporary workers by increasing the number of ‘special job categories’ from the current 26.”
