Mindan cerebrates Korean liberation from Japanese imperialism

August 16, 2011
The Central Headquarter of the Korean Residents Union in Japan (Mindan) held their “return to light” ceremony in Tokyo on August 15, marking the 66th year of the liberation of the Korean Peninsula from Japanese imperialism.

Mindan President Chung Jin extended his condolences to victims of the Great East Japan Disaster and announced that Mindan will continue its relief efforts to the disaster-hit sufferers.

Attending the ceremony on behalf of the Japanese Communist Party, Vice Chair Ogata Yasuo said in his speech that the JCP strives for further development of friendship between South Korean and Japanese citizens.

Ogata stressed that it is important to engage in rational negotiations to work to solve any issues between the two nations based on Japan’s sincere remorse over its past colonial rule.

He also pointed out the importance of the resumption of the Six-Party Talks for the de-nuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and promotion of peace in Northeast Asia.
