US military aircraft parts land on car roof
|
A U.S. military aircraft in flight dropped some parts onto a public road near the U.S. Atsugi naval base in Kanagawa Prefecture on February 8. One of the six fallen objects fell on a car roof, but luckily the driver was not injured.
The plane was an EA-6B Prowler electronic warfare aircraft of the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier George Washington deployed at the U.S. Yokosuka naval base also in Kanagawa Prefecture.
A U.S. Navy spokesperson explained that the parts that fell were six duralumin panels and that the largest in size was 2.8 meters long and 1.07 meters wide.
In the last decade in Kanagawa alone, parts from U.S. military aircraft fell to the ground 16 times.
