Former Tokyo gov’t officials rehired by firms involved in Tsukiji transfer project

Retired Tokyo Metropolitan Government officials received executive posts at 13 out of 15 companies that obtained contracts for public works projects to clean up soil contamination at the site where the government plans to relocate a fish market to, Akahata revealed on February 26.

Since 2008, more than 50 retired Tokyo government officials were hired by those major construction firms.

In the August 2011 bids for the public works project to decontaminate the site in the Toyosu district where a factory of Tokyo Gas had been located, a joint venture of major general construction firms received contracts with 54.1 billion yen. All of the 15 companies that took part in the bidding were awarded with contracts for the project with the average bidding price ratio of 94% to 97%.

Tokyo Governor Ishihara Shintaro is pushing for the completion of the transfer of the fish market by 2014.
