Ogata attends Filipino People Power Revolution ceremony

Japanese Communist Party Vice Chair Ogata Yasuo on February 25 attended a rally marking the 26th anniversary of the People Power Revolution in the Philippines, a cornerstone of democracy after the collapse of the Marcos dictatorship.
Ogata is visiting the Philippines at the invitation of Jose de Venesia, a founding chairman of the International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP) and former speaker of the House of Representatives of the Philippines.
Ogata offered his congratulations to President Benigno Aquino III for the great achievements of the People Power movement in contributing to both the Philippines’ development and the promotion of democracy in Asia.
President Aquino in reply thanked Ogata for his congratulations and participation in the ceremony.
Ogata provided general information about the JCP to Secretary of National Defense Voltaire T. Gazmin, Philippine Executive Secretary Paquito N. Ochoa, and both chambers speakers.
Ogata also had a chat with former president of the Philippines Fidel V. Ramos, who was chief of staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines at the time of the 1986 revolution, and ex-senator Agapito Aquino, an older brother of the assassinated Benigno Aquino Jr.
