2 Hibakusha win in Osaka court

The Osaka District Court on March 9 ordered the government to officially recognize that two plaintiffs’ are Hibakusha with diseases caused by A-bomb radiation.

The health and welfare ministry had rejected their application for official Hibakusha recognition by claiming that their diseases “are not caused by radiation.”

The court this time turned down the ministry’s rejection and encouraged the government to examine applications to give official recognitions without excessive delay.

After the court ruling, the plaintiffs said, “The government must fulfill its responsibility for relief of A-bomb survivors while we are still alive.”
