2012 April 4 - 10 [NUCLEAR CRISIS]

Protest takes place against restart of Oi NPP

April 10, 2012
A protest action against the restart of the Oi Nuclear Power Plant in Fukui Prefecture has been taking place in front of the Fukui prefectural government office since April 8.

The Noda cabinet is planning to send Industry Minister Edano Yukio to Fukui to meet Governor Nishikawa Issei in order to obtain consent for the resumption of operations of No.3 and 4 reactors at the NPP by the end of this week.

The protest was organized by the Fukui liaison council in opposition to nuclear power generation which consists of the Japanese Communist Party Fukui Prefectural Committee, the Fukui Federation of Democratic Medical Institutions, and other organizations.

“The whole world is watching the Oi NPP. NPPs are not safe, nor cheap, nor ecological”, stated Nishikawa Miyuki who came to join the action from Kobe City in Hyogo Prefecture.

On April 9, the council’s representative Sato Masao, a JCP member of the Fukui prefectural assembly, and secretary general Hayashi Hirokazu took to the streets together with other participants carrying anti-nuclear placards and banners, calling on passers-by to join forces with them to prevent the government from resuming operations at the NPP.
