Pilots worldwide protest against court approval of JAL’s dismissal

Airline pilots all over the world have raised voices of protest against the Tokyo District Court’s rejection of a case filed by former Japan Airlines (JAL) pilots and cabin attendants seeking the withdrawal of their dismissals.

The International Federation of Air Line Pilots’ Association (IFALPA), which represents over 100,000 pilots in more than 100 countries, adopted a statement in support of the dismissed JAL pilots on May 7 at its 67th annual meeting in Paris.

The statement criticized the judge for approving the dismissals of the pilots which were carried out based on their records of sick leaves and their age, and demanded that the Japanese government and the court order JAL to rescind the discharges and offer an appropriate response to its ex-workers.
