Fukushima farmers protest against Oi NPP restart
|
Ten Fukushima farmers on June 7 visited Osaka to demand that the Kansai Electric Power Co. (KEPCO) and the Osaka city mayor refrain from restarting reactors at the Oi nuclear power plant in Fukui Prefecture.
Participants pointed out the danger of possible nuclear accidents by saying, “My house was swept away by a 10-meter high tsunami. Do you think KEPCO can handle another disaster?”, “In Fukushima, 160,000 residents are still unable to return to their homes, and children are being forced to play inside for fear of radioactive contamination.”
Secretary General of the Fukushima Federation of Farmers Movement Nemoto Satoshi at the KEPCO main office asked how the utility feels about the Fukushima Daiichi disaster, and a staff member who they met with merely replied that he feels sorry for them.
At the Osaka City office, they criticized Osaka City Mayor Hashimoto Toru for deciding to support the reactivation of the Oi reactors. An official answered that he will report their concerns to the mayor.
