JCP Vice Chair Ogata talks with Irish ambassador Scannell
|
Japanese Communist Party Vice Chair Ogata Yasuo on September 2 met with Ambassador of Ireland in Japan Brendan Scannell at the Irish Embassy in Tokyo.
The ambassador explained the Irish government’s foreign policy and its historical background, including its policies on peace, neutrality, and humanitarian aid.
Referring to the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Scannell stated that Ireland, as a member of the New Agenda Coalition, has been active in contributing to the effort to get nuclear weapons abolished.
Ogata commented on Prime Minister Fukuda Yasuo’s sudden announcement of resignation on the previous day and outlined the current political situation, specifically the poverty issue in Japan, one of most highly developed capitalist countries in the contemporary world.
