Hibakusha call for immediate end to nuclear energy

Survivors of the 1945 nuclear bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki (Hibakusha) have released an appeal calling on the government to swiftly decide to put an end to the nation’s reliance on nuclear power generation.
In the appeal adopted at its meeting in Tokyo on October 3 and 4, the Japan Confederation of A- and H-Bombs Sufferers' Organizations (Nihon Hidankyo) stated, “Claiming ‘a possible power shortage in summer’ has been exposed as an empty threat in order to reactivate nuclear power reactors.”
It criticized the government for restarting offline nuclear reactors, lifting suspension of nuclear plant construction, and promoting their exports.
Hibakusha are firmly determined to not allow the creation of the same suffering they experienced ever again on the earth, the appeal stressed.
