Metal part from U.S. fighter jet crashes into a private house

January 29, 2010
A U.S. fighter jet on January 28 dropped a pipy metal part, which landed on a citizen’s house in Ayase City in Kanagawa Prefecture.

The U.S. forces admitted that an F/A-18E Super Hornet dropped this part.

The fallen part was 50 centimeter long and 3 centimeter in diameter. It penetrated the roof and broke a window. There were no injuries.

The U.S. aircraft carrier George Washington has been anchored at Yokosuka Base since last November. Carrier-borne planes are based at the U.S. Naval Atsugi Air Facility in Ayase City, and are now conducting flight training exercises.

A same type fighter jet also dropped similar parts in the city in February 2009.
