70 percent of 20-year-olds frustrated with politics and society

The DYLJ conducted the survey on January 11 marking the Coming-of-Age Day, responded to by 953 young people who became 20 years old.

Sixty-nine percent of respondents said they are frustrated by the state of politics and society, while 31 percent expressed they are satisfied.

In response to a question asking what issue they want the government to tackle most, 26.3 percent answered economic recovery, 15.6 percent said an end to the wasteful use of tax money, and 12.5 percent said improvement of medical, welfare, pension, and education systems.

Asked about what they want to do to make a better society, 49.7 percent responded that they want to learn more about the society and how it can be improved.

Those who do not support the Hatoyama Cabinet was 30.1 percent, while 16.6 percent expressed support for it.

Concerning the political party they support, 4.4 percent said the Japanese Communist Party, 18.8 % said the Democratic Party of Japan, and 17.5 percent said the Liberal Democratic Party.
