Tokyo’s Shibuya ward calls for dance regulation to be revised |
Shibuya is known as an area where many clubs and live music houses are located.
The local assembly sent the resolution to the Lower House speaker, the Upper House president, the prime minister, the public management minister, the justice minister, and the chairman of the National Public Safety Commission.
The unanimously adopted resolution states that dancing is a way of expression and a form of culture and has been applied to education. Pointing out that the Entertainment Business Act, established right after the end of the war, has restricted dancing as “unhealthy entertainment,” it stresses that various contradictions between the outdated regulation and present society are emerging.
Japanese Communist Party Shibuya assembly member Toma Koji, who is one of the initiators of the resolution, expressed his hope for the resolution to mark a major step forward toward a revision of the Entertainment Business Act. He also said that he wants to continue to be actively involved in actions to create an environment in which anyone can enjoy dance culture.
