Hate speech should never be tolerated: JCP
|
The Japanese Communist Party calls for a society that does not allow hate speech campaigns as are taking place in Tokyo and Osaka against Korean residents in Japan.
The JCP argues that outrageous attacks against certain races, ethnic groups, or foreign nationals “should never be allowed” even though the Constitution guarantees the freedom of expression, association, and assembly. It demands that national and local governments strictly respond to such attacks.
In its House of Councilors election platform, the JCP points out the presence of “political conditions that allow” such attacks to take place. It criticizes the justification of the past war being made by Prime Minister Abe Shinzo, Osaka Mayor Hashimoto Toru, and other political leaders as well as the government’s decision to exclude North Korean high schools from its tuition-free program.
