Fukushima’s Namie town demands apology from LDP lawmaker for her abusive remark concerning nuclear victims

Fukushima’s Namie Town Assembly on June 21 unanimously adopted a resolution demanding that Liberal Democratic Party policy head Takaichi Sanae withdraw and apologize for her abusive remarks regarding nuclear disaster victims.
The resolution was drafted and submitted by Japanese Communist Party member of the assembly Baba Isao.
Takaichi, LDP member of the House of Representatives, at the June 17 speech gathering in Hyogo’s Kobe City said that the Fukushima nuclear disaster claimed no lives.
The resolution pointed out that Takaichi made her remark in connection with the government intention to reactivate idled nuclear reactors. The resolution states, “We, Namie town people, keep on experiencing indescribable suffering. The government move to start up suspended nuclear reactors upsets nuclear disaster victims as well as the rest of Fukushima residents.”
The town assembly on the same day adopted another resolution urging the central government to withdraw its declaration that the nuclear accident is under control.
