JCP hands over 2 million yen to quake-hit Niigata Prefecture

July 27, 2007
Representatives of the Japanese Communist Party on July 26 visited the Niigata Prefectural government and handed over to Vice Governor Jimbo Kazuo two million yen collected from throughout the country for the relief of the victims of a strong quake that hit the prefecture on July 16.

Obinata Shoichi, JCP Niigata Prefectural Committee chair, explained that immediately after the quake occurred, JCP Chair Shii Kazuo and other JCP Dietmembers as well as local assembly members visited the quake-hit area and that the JCP established an on-site office to conduct relief activities.

“One of the characteristics of this earthquake is the damages to the Kashiwazaki-Kariwa Nuclear Power Station, which stirred up much concern among residents. We strongly feel it necessary for a third party to conduct an investigation into the damage at the nuclear power plant and fully disclose the results,” the JCP representatives said.

The vice governor promised that the donations will be used appropriately.
