Hibakushas protest against TEPCO’s plan to restart offline reactors

The Japan Confederation of A- and H-Bomb Sufferers Organizations (Nihon Hidankyo) on July 22 requested Tokyo Electric Power Co. (TEPCO) to not restart its idled reactors at the Kashiwazaki-Kariwa Nuclear Power Plant in Niigata Prefecture.

A group of 20 atomic-bomb survivors (Hibakusha) from Tokyo, Saitama, Chiba and Kanagawa prefectures made a representation to the utility and submitted a statement to TEPCO President Hirose Naomi.

The statement calls on TEPCO to cancel its plan to resume operations at the Kashiwazaki-Kariwa plant and to keep all of its reactors offline.

The Hibakushas told the TEPCO official about their experiences during the atomic bombings and that nuclear power generation must be ended as soon as possible.

Nihon Hidankyo at a board of representatives meeting held recently adopted an action plan to make representations to power companies to protest against their attempts to restart their reactors.
