Number of non-regular workers reaches record high

The number of non-regular workers in Japan now totals 18.81 million, the largest number since the survey started in 2002.
This was released on August 13 in the latest labor force survey from April to June by the internal affairs ministry.
The amount increased by 1.06 million from the same period of last year. Of them, men account for 6.03 million and women for 12.78 million.
The ratio of non-regular workers to all employees is 36.2%, up by 1.7% from the same period of 2012.
The ratio is 45.5% in the age group from 15 to 24 years old and 27.6% from 25 to 34 years old. The number of regular workers totals 33.17 million, down by 530,000 from the same period last year.
