Shii calls on JCP lawmakers to conduct Diet debates to assist the public in their struggles against Abe’s runaway policies

The Japanese Communist Party on January 24, the first day of the 186th ordinary session of the Diet, held its Dietmembers’ assembly at the Diet building and resolved to work hard to increase people’s movements in order to foil Abe’s runaway policies.

Chair Shii Kazuo first pointed out that the Diet building was encircled by people protesting against the state secrets protection law on the opening day of the Diet session and that an anti-base candidate won in the latest Okinawa’s Nago City mayoral election.

“During this ordinary Diet session, the Abe government will face fierce public protests against its runaway policies in every field,” he stated.

Shii stressed that only the JCP in the Diet can confront the Abe administration’s arrogant politics, make proposals based on people’s demands, and move politics in a new direction by strengthening its cooperation with the general public.

Shii called on JCP parliamentarians to hold Diet discussions which assist the public in their struggles against Abe’s wild attempts such as the planned consumption tax increase, social security cuts, reactivation of offline nuclear reactors, exercise of the right to collective self-defense, and constitutional revision.
