Fault under Tsuruga nuclear power plant again confirmed to be active
|
An expert team of the Nuclear Regulation Authority on November 19 issued a draft assessment report reconfirming that an active fault lies under the No.2 reactor at the Tsuruga Nuclear Power Plant in Tsuruga City, Fukui Prefecture.
In May last year, the NRA approved the previous report declaring the fault in question is active. However, as the Tsuruga’s operator, the Japan Atomic Power Company, submitted a document denying that the fault is active two months later, the NRA team investigated the NPP site again.
If the latest report is approved, the No.2 reactor will be decommissioned as no reactors are allowed to be built over active faults.
