Drunken US soldier arrested for attacking police officer

December 20, 2014
Okinawa City Police on December 19 arrested a U.S. soldier for assault on a police officer after driving away from a checkpoint set up to determine if drivers were driving under the influence of alcohol.

According to the police, U.S. Army Captain Nathaniel Curley, 28, drove through the DUI checkpoint at midnight in Chatan Town. He kept driving about 300 meters then exited the car and ran headfirst into a law-enforcement officer who was attempting to apprehend him.

The suspect was arrested for obstructing the execution of official duties. He is also suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol.

It was just in this past month that the U.S. military relaxed its restrictions on drinking outside base gates by its personnel in Okinawa.
