Osprey again drops a part by accident
|
An Osprey of the U.S. Futenma base dropped a metal part accidentally while flying over Okinawa Prefecture, Akahata on March 16 learned from the Defense Ministry.
According to the ministry, a 165-gram aluminum part fell from the Osprey aircraft but there were no injuries. Ospreys caused another drop incident in Okinawa in June last year.
On the afternoon of March 12, the aircraft in question supposedly dropped the item on its way home from the U.S. Camp Hansen located in the middle of the main island of Okinawa after fighting wildfires there, the Defense Ministry said.
The ministry said to Akahata that it already requested the U.S. Forces Japan to determine the cause of the incident and take measures to prevent a recurrence.
