Ogata meets with socialist party leader in Bulugaria
Japanese Communist Party Vice Chair Ogata Yasuo on June 10 met with Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) Chair Mihail Mikov at the BSP head office in Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria.
Ogata visited Bulgaria for three days from June 10 at the BSP’s invitation.
Offering a warm welcome to Ogata, the BSP leader expressed his congratulations on the JCP advance in the latest series of elections.
Ogata said that his visit to Bulgaria this time, his fourth visit in 33 years, will give him a great opportunity to learn about the major changes from the old regime and about the BSP’s activities and policies. He introduced the 93 year history of the JCP and talked about the current situation in Japan’s politics and the ongoing JCP activities.
The BSP chair said that after the name change from the Bulgarian Communist Party to the BSP in 1989, the party had the experience of taking power and is playing a role now as the largest opposition party. He also reported that former BSP leader Sergei Stanishev is serving as the president of the Party of European Socialists.
Ogata and Mikov agreed to establish relations between the two parties and promote their cooperation.
On the following day, Ogata again visited the BSP head office to meet with former foreign minister and BSP international secretary Kristian Vigenin and BSP European affairs secretary Deniza Karadjova. He also visited the Bulgarian parliament to hold talks with BSP parliamentarians.
