JCP seats increase to 5 from 3 in Saitama’s Ageo City Assembly election
|
All five candidates of the Japanese Communist Party won seats in Saitama’s Ageo City Assembly election on December 6 so the party increased its number of seats to five from its pre-election strength of three.
The JCP received 11,556 votes or 17.4% of the total, up by more than 2,000 votes or up four percentage points from the previous election four years ago.
In the election campaign, the JCP candidates called on Ageo citizens to raise their voices against the war legislation by voting for the JCP which has been forcefully opposing the controversial legislation. On the other hand, the Liberal Democratic and Komei parties, which had railroaded the war laws through the Diet, received fewer votes than in the previous election.
Regarding the city government policies, the JCP proposed lowering the national health insurance premiums and easing financial burdens in the nursing care insurance system, attracting a wide public support.
