Truck drivers and owners will jointly work on antiwar signature-collection drive

February 2, 2016
The All Japan Construction, Transport and General Workers’ Union (CTG, Kenkoro) on February 1 held a labor-management meeting with truck company owners and decided to jointly work on the ongoing 20-million signature-collection campaign calling for the revocation of the war legislation.

At the meeting, the union and employers adopted a joint statement declaring that they will pursue the path toward a sound development of the transport industry and will firmly refuse to carry materials or goods that may assist in preparation for engagement in war.

Delegates from both the union and management visited the Defense Ministry after the meeting, demanding that the state authorities keep from forcibly mobilizing private truckload carriers to transport military supplies.

The truck transportation sector had a bitter experience when it was placed under the control of the Imperial regime and forced into wartime support during the war.
