Japanese Communist Party member of the House of Councilors Nihi Sohei on February 22 met with a representative of the UN Women National Committee Japan, Hashimoto Hiroko, in Tokyo to deliver about 2.19 million yen in donations for Ukraine that the JCP had received additionally from across the country.
Nihi said that the donations indicate Japanese people’s hope for putting a stop to the war. In response, Hashimoto said, “The ongoing war in Ukraine has been undermining the foundation for protecting the human rights of women. Our organization will deliver the JCP donations to the UN Women Office in Ukraine.”
The two talked about roles that the UN Women organization plays in promoting gender equality such as making efforts to increase women’s economic equality.
