Gensuikyo works hard for success of 2010 anti-nuke meeting

July 13, 2010
The Japan Council against A and H Bombs (Japan Gensuikyo) on July 12 held a standing directors’ meeting and confirmed its determination to work hard for the success of the 2010 World Conference against A and H Bombs (Aug. 2-9).

Japan Gensuikyo Secretary General Taka Hiroshi stated that this year’s conference will be an important venue for all the people involved in anti-nuclear weapons and peace movements in Japan to discuss ways to establish a world without nuclear arms following the NPT Review Conference that was held in May.

Taka went on to say that that the conference will also be a place to exchange opinions and ideas on how to confront and overcome the argument for nuclear deterrence as this is the largest obstacle standing in the path to a nuclear-free world.

Government representatives from non-aligned countries and the New Agenda Coalition, a high-ranking official from the Arab League, as well as U.N. High Representative for Disarmament Affairs Sergio Duarte, and many other peace activists from all over the world will participate in the 2010 conference.
