Liberal Democratic Party lawmaker Nishikawa Koya, who is also the chair of the House of Representatives Special Committee on the Trans-Pacific Partnership, on April 15 held a fundraising party at a Tokyo hotel while many people in Kumamoto and Oita prefectures are experiencing hardships caused by the April 14 earthquake and the ongoing aftershocks.
Responding to reporters, Nishikawa said, “Because I feel sympathy for the quake victims, I requested the hotel to dim the lights in the party hall.”
A glimpse of the party venue which was off limits to the media showed sparkling chandeliers and a large variety of dishes and drinks on tables. The sounds of applause and laughter floated out from the venue.
