Japan Airlines will no longer force its female cabin attendants and ground crewmembers to wear high heels. Starting from April 1, they can wear loafers and casual shoes in addition to high heels.
Japanese Communist Party Secretariat Head Koike Akira on March 23 revealed the JAL decision during an Upper House committee meeting and said, "I welcome this speedy reaction to my questioning the other day, and this proved that speaking out has an influence on both politics and society at large."
Koike at the House of Councilors Budget Committee meeting on March 3 demanded that the government instruct companies to not force female workers to wear high heels.
