Japanese Communist Party Vice Chair Ogata Yasuo, who is also the chair of the party’s International Committee, on September 4 held an online meeting with Hoang Binh Quan, head of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee Commission for External Relations. They exchanged views concerning the ongoing COVID-19 situation as well as regional and world issues. This meeting was organized based on an agreement that the heads of the two parties’ international divisions will hold talks when necessary.
Quan explained in detail how Vietnam implemented coronavirus countermeasures by giving priority to the protection of people’s lives and health over short-term economic interests.
Ogata cited a speech by JCP Chair Shii Kazuo at a party gathering to commemorate the 98th anniversary of the JCP foundation in which Shii spoke about various subjects including the collapse of neoliberalism, the limits of capitalism, and the need for international cooperation to overcome the coronavirus crisis.
Ogata and Quan agreed to continue to hold discussion to envisage a post-coronavirus world.
They also exchanged views on recent developments in the world and the current situation in the East and South China Seas.
