Japanese Communist Party Secretariat Head Koike Akira on April 21 said that official confirmation of willingness to join forces with the JCP in “single-seat constituencies” is a prerequisite for electoral cooperation with other opposition parties in the Upper House election this summer.
At a press conference in the Diet building, asked about cooperation between opposition parties in the 32 single-seat constituencies, Koike stated that the “Nippon Ishin no Kai” party and the Democratic Party for the People would never be electoral partners with the JCP as they are supplementary forces to the ruling Liberal Democratic Party.
Regarding the largest opposition Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan, Koike said, “An agreement on common policies and acceptance of the principle of mutual respect on an equal footing will be necessary. A prerequisite for this is CDPJ’s official confirmation of its willingness to cooperate with the JCP in single-seat constituencies.”
