As part of its relief efforts in disaster-hit regions, the Japanese Communist Party on March 22 began distributing to the victims leaflets listing public assistance systems they can apply for.
The JCP’s original leaflet introduces how to use various assistance programs in which national and local governments offer assistance to disaster victims to receive medical treatments and rebuild their houses.
The leaflet also includes information on public support for smaller business owners, farmers, and fishers can receive in order to reconstruct their businesses.
At evacuations centers, local JCP committees, lawmakers, and members are handing out the leaflets to evacuees, encouraging them to make use of the programs.
A woman who lost her house to the tsunami in the aftermath of the earthquake in Sendai City, Miyagi Prefecture, received the leaflet and said, “I am not familiar with such programs and was wondering what assistance I can apply for, so the information is very helpful.”
