Japanese Communist Party Secretariat Head Koike Akira on July 19 held a press conference in the Diet building and protested North Korea’s launch of ballistic missiles earlier on the same day toward the Sea of Japan.
Koike said, “It clearly violates UNSC resolutions and I must severely protest against such an outrageous act as it only helps intensify regional tensions.”
He also said, “It is becoming a very pressing issue to have North Korea abandon its development programs of nuclear weapons and missiles.”
He went on to say, “The UNSC should now fully impose sanctions against North Korea and it is necessary for the international community to make a united effort in order to press North Korea to sit at a negotiating table. As long as North Korea continues to pursue a course toward nuclear armament, it does not bode well for the future.”
