Shii protests North Korea’s missile launch
|
North Korea on the morning of February 12 again conducted a ballistic missile test launch and the rocket fell into the Sea of Japan. Japanese Communist Party Chair Shii Kazuo later on the same day issued a protest statement as follows:
This morning, February 12, North Korea launched a ballistic missile from the northwestern part of the country which landed in the Sea of Japan. This is a military action inseparably linked to the country’s nuclear weapons development, which poses a serious threat to international peace and security. It is also a reckless deed violating a series of UN Security Council resolutions, the Joint Declaration of the Six-Party Talks, and the Japan-DPRK Pyongyang Declaration.
The JCP condemns and protests against North Korea’s act. The party warns that if the country continues to stage military provocations in such a way, it would not have much future.
The need is to pressure North Korea to abandon its program to develop nuclear weapons and missiles. This gives an added importance to the international conference on a Nuclear Weapons Convention which is scheduled for March at the UN Headquarters in New York City. The JCP will work hard for the success of the conference.
