Opposition parties jointly submit bills on sign language

Four opposition parties, including the Japanese Communist Party, and one parliamentary group on June 14 jointly submitted bills to the Lower House in relation to the promotion of renewable sources of energy and the promotion of sign language.

The renewables-related bills aim to facilitate the use of distributed energy sources to encourage "local production for local consumption" by utilizing the creativity of each community's regional characteristics.

The latter bills aim to stipulate that the government has a responsibility to increase opportunities for persons with hearing disabilities to master sign language and further develop deaf culture. The bills also aim to secure access to and accelerate the use of communication means for all persons with visual and/or hearing difficulties.

JCP Policy Commission Chair Kasai Akira after the bills' submission told the press that he feels glad that the opposition parties together presented the bills to the Diet based on their common electoral agenda.

Kasai also said, "The JCP will work hard to realize a decarbonized society by means of renewables, which is the world trend, in cooperation with the opposition parties and concerned citizens."
