A construction company headed by the Aomori governor received orders from the Japan Nuclear Fuel Ltd. (JNFL), operator of a nuclear reprocessing plant in Rokkasho Village, Aomori Prefecture, according to a scoop published in Akahata on October 7.

According to document it submitted to the prefecture, the company’s major shareholders include Governor Mimura Shingo’s wife and father, who is a former member of the prefectural assembly. Mimura himself was also a large shareholder until last year.

At a press conference on September 25, the governor said that it is important to continue with the reprocessing of spent nuclear fuel.

Akahata also found that construction companies related to two prefectural assembly members of the Liberal Democratic Party also received orders from the JNFL.
