Another drunken US marine arrested

Another drunken U.S. marine has been arrested. He allegedly trespassed on an apartment in Naha City, Okinawa, according to the Naha police office.

At about 7:30 a.m. on November 18, a 23-year-old marine belonging to the U.S. Futenma base allegedly entered an apartment in downtown Naha and lay in a bed room. The front door was unlocked.

The residents called police and the first lieutenant was found asleep in the bedroom. They had never met him.

The marine said to the police that he had been drinking all night in the city.

The Headquarters of the U.S. Forces in Japan imposed a curfew from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. on all U.S. servicemen in Japan following the rape of a Japanese woman by U.S. sailors in Okinawa last month.

Japanese Communist Party representative Akamine Seiken commented on the incident as follows:

It is only recently that another rape case (October 16) and another violence case (November 2) occurred. I am outraged.

Yet another case has occurred even though all U.S. servicemen are supposed to be under curfew, clearly indicating that what they call a curfew is something that is not strictly enforced.

The only way to eliminate U.S. military crimes is to remove all the U.S. bases from the prefecture.
