JCP Kami attends rally for return of northern territories

Japanese Communist Party parliamentarian Kami Tomoko on February 7 took part in a national rally in Tokyo calling for the return of the Russian-held northern territories, hosted by the Cabinet Office and six local groups.

A list of political parties’ policies on the northern territories was distributed to participants at the rally. The JCP, in its policy statement, points out that the real cause of the Japan-Russia territorial issue is Stalin’s territorial expansionism at the end of WW II. “As the basis for discussing the bilateral territorial issue, the unfair arrangement of the postwar process needs to be addressed,” it asserts.

The JCP position expresses that it will continue to make efforts to realize the return of all the Chishima Islands, along with the Islands of Habomai and Shikotan.
