PM claims Tokyo Tribunal was unfair
|
Prime Minister Abe Shinzo on March 12 said in the Diet that the Tokyo Tribunal of War Criminals had unfairly convicted leaders of Japan’s war of aggression.
“The past war was reviewed and convicted not by Japanese themselves but by the Tokyo Tribunal, where the Allies made their judgment as the victors,” said Abe at a House of Representatives budget committee meeting.
After the war, Japan returned to the international society after accepting the judgment of the Tokyo Tribunal and establishing its Constitution based on remorse over its war of aggression and colonial rule. The prime minister’s move to reject the outcome of the Tokyo Tribunal is tantamount to the government’s disregard of the post-war international order.
