Japanese Communist Party Chair Shii Kazuo on September 8 met with Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Wu Dawei at the JCP head office in Tokyo and discussed the North Korea nuclear issue.
Wu, chairman of the Six-Party Talks, explained the recent developments in North Korea, and Shii in response stressed the importance of promoting efforts to solve the issue peacefully and diplomatically through the Six-Party Talks.
Shii went on to say that enhancing the world trend toward the abolition of nuclear weapons will provide an incentive to persuade North Korea, and Shii stated that he had sent U.S. President Obama a letter calling for starting negotiations for a world without nuclear weapons and that he had received an official letter in reply from Obama.
Shii also explained the JCP’s basic stance as a constructive opposition party in relation to a new Japanese government led by the Democratic Party of Japan.
